Daniel B. Hogan, J.D., Ph.D.
Executive Director
Dan joined the Passim board in 2005, became Chair in 2006, Interim Executive Director in 2007, and Executive Director in 2008. Prior to Passim, Dan was Executive Director of Fathers & Families, a nonprofit organization trying to ensure that fathers can remain involved in the lives of their children after divorce.
For three decades, Dan was a management consultant, including positions as Vice President of McBer & Company (a division of the Hay Group) and Founder and President of the Apollo Group. He specialized in leadership development, executive assessment and coaching, and the development and implementation of models for outstanding job performance. Clients included Pfizer, American Express Private Bank, Merrill Lynch, Mercedes Benz (South Africa), and the Harvard University Alumni Affairs and Development Department.
Dan presently serves on the board of directors of Standex International Corporation (listed on the NYSE), where he is a member of the Compensation Committee and the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee. He is also on the executive board of the Harvard Square Business Association and a member of the Board of Visitors of the Longy School of Music. Past board memberships include the American Psychology-Law Society, the National Center for the Study of Professions and the Fenn School.
Dan is a licensed psychologist and was a member of the Massachusetts Bar for many years. He served on the faculty at Harvard University in the Department of Psychology and at McLean Hospital. He is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Division of Law & Psychology and Division of Clinical Psychology) and the American Psychological Society. He is a life member of the Massachusetts Psychological Association.
Dan has consulted, published, and lectured extensively on issues of assessment and leadership. Contemporary Psychology has called his four-volume series on professional selection and regulation "the most comprehensive and most stimulating publications on the matter." Dan is the author of more than a dozen publications, including articles in the New York Times and Harvard Journal on Legislation, as well as chapters in edited books.
Dan has three children and lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is an avid squash player. In his age group, Dan won the 2010 Massachusetts state championship and finished 2005 ranked #1 in the country.
Dan received his B.A. from Yale University, J.D. from Harvard Law School, and Ph.D. in Clinical and Social Psychology from Harvard University.
Karen LeCompte
Director of Operations
Karen earned her BA degree from Wheaton College with a major in Chemistry in 1990. After many years as a research chemist, Karen's passion for the arts led her to seek out a more fulfilling profession. Rather unexpectedly, Karen's volunteer efforts at Passim took root and a new career was born. Over the last dozen or so years Karen has used her analytical skills to manage the organization's finances as the Director of Operations.
As Director of Operations, Karen is responsible for and managing the day-to-day operations of the Center. This includes all aspects of financial management and bookkeeping; oversight of membership and the School of Music administration; publication management; supervision of staff; and management of all donor, membership and other Center mailing lists.
James Ricciuti
Director of Development
Jim Ricciuti is in his third year as Director of Development at Passim. Mr. Ricciuti possesses a Master's of Science in Arts Administration from Boston University and a Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology from Tufts University. Mr. Ricciuti has worked at some of Boston's finest institutions, including Harvard University and Berklee College of Music. He is an avid musician with a passion for songwriting. Mr. Ricciuti brings administration experience and training along with a vision for Passim to be one of the leading cultural centers in New England.
As Director of Development, Jim Ricciuti is responsible for the overall management of fundraising activities of Passim Center. This includes, in cooperation with the Executive Director and Fundraising Committee, developing and revising annual fundraising goals and planning. Jim is responsible for all major sources of giving including: individual donations and the Membership program, foundations, government agencies, and corporations and businesses. He also takes part in logistics and planning for special events such as the Annual Celebration concert, VIP receptions, auctions, and the annual holiday party.
Matthew Smith
Club Passim Manager
Matt Smith began working at Club Passim as a night manager in the summer of 1995, after having been a volunteer for three months, and a patron of the club for two years before that. Two years later, he came on to the Passim staff as a full-time manager and also worked for Young/Hunter Management (Peter Mulvey, Chris Smither, Dar Williams, Richard Shindell), and was one of the founders of FolkWeb, a now-defunct online folk merchandise store. Since beginning his career in the music world, Matt has been on panels and advisory committees at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, The International Folk Alliance, The Northeast Regional Folk Alliance, as well as tour managing the singer-songwriter collaborative "Live From New York" and the Celtic supergroup "Halali." Matt has also been a stage emcee at the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival and the Newport Folk Festival, as well as being the founder of Club Passim's own Campfire Festival, held three times annually.
Matt Smith is the Manager of Club Passim and his duties include overseeing and training all of the club's management staff, booking and developing new talent in the room, booking and coordination of the Campfire festival and booking special events. Matt also provides content for and lays out Passim's bi-monthly newsletter, coordinates the club's volunteer crew and night manages several shows at the club per week.
Susan Scotti
Public Relations; Marketing Coordinator
Susan Scotti is Passim’s Public Relations and marketing coordinator and has been with the organization since 2005. Susan attended Adelphi University in New York and University of Colorado Boulder. She began working in the music industry by managing clubs, then on to managing and promoting artists both locally and nationally, and has worked with many bands and solo artists. She considers Club Passim and the local music scene one of the best communities in the country. Susan is also on the Board of Directors at The Arts and The Armory, Somerville, MA and on the Nominating Committee for The Boston Music Awards.
She handles all of of the publicity and marketing for Passim, books the gallery, and started the Music Speaks program for teenagers in 2008.
Mallory Coppenrath
Assistant Club Manager
Mallory Coppenrath serves as Assistant Club Manager at the Passim Center. Mallory received a Bachelor’s degree in English and American Literature from New York University in 2006. While living in New York, Mallory realized her desire to work in the arts, and subsequently began working at Boston Ballet. While working a second job at Veggie Planet, she became enthralled with Club Passim. Mallory is the newest member of the Passim family.
As Assistant Club Manager Mallory's responsibilities include keeping up with monthly finances, sending out membership cards for new and current members, posting School of Music class offerings on the Passim website, handling and managing ticketing requests and inquiries. Mallory is also a night manager for Club Passim two to three times a week. Her responsibilities include completing sound checks for the artists and running the soundboard. She is also responsible for setting the Club up for the show, and when the show has concluded, breaking the stage down and doing that night’s payout.
Sarah Fleischmann
School of Music Coordinator
Sarah Fleischmann graduated from Tufts University in 2008 with a BA in Child Development and a minor in Communications and Media Studies. She discovered her love for the music industry when she joined the Executive Board of the Tufts Concert Board, and later cemented it through music-related internships at Nettwerk Management, and Braithwaite and Katz PR. After interning at Passim, Sarah joined the staff as a utility player and later became the Education and Outreach Coordinator in Fall 2008.
Sarah runs the Passim School of Music, which involves selecting and scheduling classes, publicizing and marketing the school, and working with students and instructors to create a supportive and creative learning environment. She also organizes community outreach programs and events, often collaborating with other local organizations to bring celebrations like Make Music Cambridge and Mayfair to life.
